Marcellus Shale driller heats up homes with $50,000 donation
Money will benefit families struggling to pay their home heating bills this winter
WEXFORD, Pennsylvania (January 27, 2009) - Chief Oil & Gas this week donated $50,000 to help families struggling to pay their home heating bills this winter. The donation will benefit families in Bradford, Cambria, Clearfield, Fayette, Lycoming, Somerset and Susquehanna Counties. The funds will be distributed by nonprofit organizations responsible for home heating assistance in each county.
"We hope that this donation will make it a little easier for families to pay their energy bill this winter," said Kristi Gittins, Vice President of Chief Oil & Gas. "We understand many families are struggling and we welcome the opportunity to give back to the communities where we operate."
"On behalf of the many families in Pennsylvania that local United Ways serve, we wish to thank Chief for its generous donation," said Tony Ross, President of United Way of Pennsylvania. "This contribution comes at a crucial time and will go a long way in helping meet the needs of many families."
Through economic development, new jobs and giving back to the community, Chief Oil & Gas is committed to helping the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania realize the tremendous economic benefits of natural gas drilling in the Marcellus Shale.
"As we expand our operations in Pennsylvania, we also want to expand our role in the local areas where our development takes place. We look forward to working with these communities and will continue to support important initiatives like the home heating assistance programs that allow us to give back to these communities," said Gittins.
Chief Oil & Gas has leased more than 500,000 acres for natural gas drilling in the Marcellus Shale, a formation that runs from the southern tier of New York, through the western portion of Pennsylvania into the eastern half of Ohio and through Maryland and West Virginia. In Pennsylvania, the formation extends from the Appalachian plateau into the western valley and ridge.
In the next year, Chief expects to drill 40 to 45 wells and have 4 to 5 drilling rigs running in multiple counties throughout the Marcellus Shale.
Helping communities grow and prosper is important to Chief. In Pennsylvania, Chief has funded scholarships and made donations to local fire departments and emergency providers ensuring continued education and providing safety gear.
