Chief Oil & Gas is committed to creating a workplace that is safe, healthy and injury-free. Our employees and contractors are our most valuable assets, and their safety and health is our first priority. Safety is essential to all business functions and to ensure each of our employees and partners go home safe and sound at the end of every day. Some tenets of Chief’s safety program include:
Stop Work Authority
At Chief Oil & Gas every employee and contractor has the right, authority, responsibility and obligation to suspend any and all unsafe work actions or conditions through Stop Work Authority.
Contractor Management Program
The foundation of a robust safety culture is connecting and communicating with our employees and contractors to continually enhance safety processes. We actively partner with our vendors through a comprehensive contractor management program. Each company is screened for their safety programs and compliance and undergoes a risk assessment. The partnership continues through regular face-to-face communication, emails and biannual contractor safety meetings.
We follow a rigorous incident reporting protocol. All employees and contractors are expected to report all injuries, near misses, property damage, observations of unsafe work, security issues, environmental issues, and stop work incidents. All data is collected, reviewed and categorized into leading and lagging indicators. This allows us to track trends and focus efforts for future improvement. We also pro-actively track hazard identifications that could cause impacts on personnel, equipment or the environment and implement corrective actions.
Our commitment to workplace safety is evident through all levels of the organization. We continue to refine our processes and metrics as we work towards our goal of zero injuries.
In the Community
Chief Oil & Gas cares about the community where we work and live. Our commitment to safety is pinnacle to our operations; we are dedicated to keeping people safe.
State and federal regulatory agencies require operators to implement Preparedness, Prevention and Contingency (PPC) and Local Emergency Response (LERP) plans. We partner with local Emergency Management Agencies and volunteer fire departments and attend Local Emergency Response Planning (LEPC) meetings. We apply classroom incident command instruction and training through annual field exercises.
We have continuous monitoring of production locations through our Operations Control Center (OCC).
We don’t just work in the community, we live here too. Keeping the community safe is one of our highest priorities.
